The Courage to Change

Being willing to make changes requires courage and commitment. Even when the rewards from change are great, human beings tend to stick to what is familiar to them, hoping that by trying even harder things will improve. But when it comes to early symptoms of burnout, trying to push through can spell disaster down the track, says health practitioner and health coach Luke Rossmanith, founder of About Courage.

For more than 16 years, Luke has worked with hundreds of clients who have committed to improving their health and finding a better way forward for themselves. “In most cases, it’s professional women who come to me for help,” he says. “They say they’ve come to the point where they want to address symptoms that are holding them back from achieving at work and finding pleasure in their personal life. They’ve given a lot to others and now they want to do whatever it takes to move forward in a healthy way.”

Women often juggle a number of roles and responsibilities: professional woman, mother, partner, daughter, friend. The consequence can be that they continue to feel exhausted and stressed. Their physical, emotional and mental health suffers, and so, too, do their relationships with the people they love.

The symptoms that many of these professional women are suffering from are what Luke calls The Big Six, indicators of possible burnout ahead if they aren’t addressed:

  • Feelings of anxiety and overwhelm
  • High levels of stress
  • Poor sleep
  • Adrenal fatigue and exhaustion
  • Hormonal imbalances (possibly menstrual or thyroid related)
  • Digestive issues

Along with these main symptoms a person may report others such as chronic aches and pains, skin problems, like eczema or psoriasis, and a tendency to fall ill easily, a sign that their immune response is diminished.

Luke has developed a step-by-step strategy for breaking free from The Big Six, which calls on the connection between physical, mental, and emotional health. A structured, holistic approach aimed at improving all aspects of health, it has transformed the lives of hundreds of clients.

“The Big Six can lead to feelings and behaviour that take you by surprise,” Luke says. “I’ve had women tell me that they’re struggling with mood swings they don’t understand, or that they’re having trouble with boundaries, or with making good decisions. It’s common for them to report that even when they set aside time for themselves, they just can’t relax, and this makes them even more stressed and exhausted.”

About Courage encourages women to prioritise their physical and mental health, regain confidence, and establish stronger, healthier boundaries.
