Here we sit down with Sharon, to know a bit more about her journey as a life and business coach.

Q. What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?

Sharon: When my children were babies, I was a stay-at-home-mom. When they got a little older, I wanted to go back to work but on my terms. I started off working half-day in admin positions but was retrenched. I decided t would like to work for myself from home which would allow me to still be there for my children.

Q. How did you get started?

Sharon: I attended a parenting workshop run by two life coaches. It was life-changing, not just in terms of parenting but in my personal development as well. I decided to become a life coach myself and did a one-year diploma course in Life Coaching. I am a life-long learner and continue to do courses that I feel will be of benefit to my clients as I learn more.

Q. What was your biggest startup challenge? What steps did you take to overcome it? What did you learn?

Sharon: Initially it was difficult to get clients but once I got my website and social media pages up and running I started to get inquiries — and clients. I also made use of lead generation sites such as Bark and Snupit.

Q. What is the Most Memorable Thing You’ve Done Since you Started your Business?

Sharon: I’ve always had a fear of public speaking but since I began coaching I have stepped out of my comfort zone and run numerous workshops as well as given talks on various topics.

I am also a consultant for a journalist and have contributed to numerous articles in Living and Loving magazine, Glamour, and online publications.

Q. What is one book you recommend, and why?

Sharon: The one book I would recommend is Who switched off my Brain? by Dr. Caroline Leaf. The book is about controlling toxic thoughts and emotions. At times, we are our own worst enemy as we self-sabotage with negative thoughts and thinking patterns.

Q. In terms of legacy, what is the mark you’d like to leave on the world?

Sharon: The impact I’d like to have on the world is making a positive difference in people’s lives, helping them to be better versions of themselves, and fulfilling their potential to be the best that they can be.

Q. In one sentence, what’s the best advice you’d give to someone just starting out on their entrepreneurial journey?

Sharon: Do your research, know your market, your competitors, and be clear about what problem you solve.
