Here we sit down with Lyndsi, to know a bit more about her journey as a digital Marketer.

Q. What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?

Edgar: I saw an opportunity to provide high-quality, authentic, and informative content for small to mid-size companies that fit within their budget. I loved that I could provide a service with a higher standard and help fellow entrepreneurs.

As a mom, being an entrepreneur has taken on a new meaning. I have the ability to choose my own hours, focusing my time and energy on projects I love while still spending lots of time with family.

Q. How did you get started?

Edgar: Ever since I was a kid, I would come up with commercials in my head to market products. I continued this love for creativity thinking my entire life by attending a magnet school focusing on communication and then studying public relations in college and continuing my education by receiving a Master’s Degree in Integrated Marketing at Florida State University. While in college social media was in its infancy and a few innovative companies want to pursue this new thing called “Facebook.” I interned at these companies, discovering a true love for the industry. In 2014, I decided to start my own marketing company and it was the best decision I have ever made. For over seven years, I have had the privilege of working with some of the most talented individuals and developing incredible marketing campaigns.

Today, I still run my agency, eLuminate Marketing. We are a boutique firm focusing on digital marketing in particular social media marketing. We help mid-to-large companies increase their brand awareness on social platforms by developing creative and innovative marketing campaigns.

Q. What was your biggest startup challenge? What steps did you take to overcome it? What did you learn?

Edgar: I did not get an MBA degree. I excelled in helping my clients with their marketing campaigns but I lacked in understanding business concepts for my own company. With the help of mentors, I developed a better understanding of profit margins, accounting, and all the “fun” aspects of owning a business. It’s important to reach out to others to help you learn and grow rather than going at it alone.

Q. What is the Most Memorable Thing You’ve Done Since you Started your Business?

Edgar: Visiting new cities such as Austin, Chicago, Baton Rouge, Denver, Charlotte, and more as well as collaborating with a myriad of brilliant entrepreneurs and business owners. I’m honored they chose my company to help them grow and we love seeing their success.

Q. What is one book you recommend, and why?

Edgar: The 4 Hour Work Week by Tim Ferris. I used to have this mentality that if you work a lot of hours you will be successful. I am much more efficient with my time and outsource items that others can handle. Every day I print out a to-do list and number the priorities for the day. This helps me go from one task to another without distraction. Then 1–2 times a day I check email. Don’t get bogged down in your emails, you will never get anything done! Additionally, any research or items that others can help me with, I outsource. I focus my time and efforts on my skills such as sales and marketing.

Q. What are your top 3 favourite online apps, tools, or resources and what do you love about them?

Edgar: Libby — I love to read and this is a great place to get books on my Kindle for free. All you need is a library card.

Slack — It’s a quick and easy way to communicate with team members and clients.

Insight Timer — it’s a free app with hundreds of great meditation guides and calming music.

Q. In terms of legacy, what is the mark you’d like to leave on the world?

Edgar: First and foremost, a wonderful mother and wife who is present with her kids and husband. A friend you can count on and have a good time with and a colleague who provides value.

Q. In one sentence, what’s the best advice you’d give to someone just starting out on their entrepreneurial journey?

Edgar: Focus on your strengths and outsource minor tasks such as researching or mundane items. It’s important to be efficient with your time so you can provide as much value for your clients and your company.
