Here we sit down with Barrett, to know a bit more about her journey as an entrepreneur.

Q. What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?

Barrett: I don’t think there was ever an option NOT to be an entrepreneur in my life. I’ve learned the hard lesson over and over again that I ultimately struggle with authority figures, especially incompetent ones who weren’t open to pivoting to make systems more efficient.

Now, as an entrepreneur, I’m able to have my own work/life balance and bring that stability to the table to help as many people as possible discover what mind/body/spirit wellness looks like for themselves. It’s powerfully liberating!

Q. How did you get started?

Barrett: Having formerly had careers as a stunt woman and producer in Hollywood, I started my career in the wellness industry after a bad snowboard accident left me unable to work for 3 months. It became apparent to me then, through my own healing journey, that I was passionate about releasing trauma from the body and helping people heal on both a physical and emotional level.

As I explored that passion deeper and experienced the life-altering benefits of psilocybin mushrooms, I knew I had to share all of the healing I could offer with the world. My hands-on bodywork clients are typically the gateway that funnels new connections to me.

However, the podcast has also been instrumental in increasing my reach. In my experience, clients who are aligned with my energy and ready to change their lives tend to find me when the timing is right. Now, the psychedelic support arm of my business is flourishing and constantly growing to offer more support around integrating plant medicine experiences.

Q. What was your biggest startup challenge? What steps did you take to overcome it? What did you learn?

Barrett: Overcoming the hurdles of legal access to psychedelic and plant medicines is still a continuous hurdle that I am up against. However, the landscape is rapidly changing and I am constantly pivoting and allowing my business to flow with what IS legally allowed in California… such as coaching support around someone’s personal psychedelic experiences, energy healing, breathwork, and supporting materials.

What I’ve really learned is that MANY people out there really need the help of this work, whether it’s legal or not, and I desire to show up and help people facilitate that massive change within.

Q. What is the most memorable thing you’ve done since you started your business?

Barrett: Launching The Modern Hippie Podcast has been one of the most rewarding and impactful things I had done since embarking on the psychedelic guidance path.

By creating an ongoing conversation around plant medicines, healing work, and how to support your own growth through many different modalities, my audience can join me on my journey while also gaining tools for their own.

Q. What is one book you recommend, and why?

Barrett: “The Gratitude Diaries” by Janice Kaplan is a must-read book! This was probably the single most powerful book I have ever read.

A simple concept, but by following along on her journey and implementing your own daily gratitude practice, massive shifts will begin to occur in your life.

Q. What are your top 3 favourite online apps, tools or resources and what do you love about them?

Barrett:

Instagram — There’s so much to love! Having a hands-on connection with my friends and followers. Advertising capabilities. The ability to use photos and extensive writing to share my message. Video and photo endless designs. Everyone must be on Instagram.

Canva — After decades of experience with Adobe Suite, Canva has come along and really made it easy to create good to great graphics quickly and masterfully.

Google Chat — And under-discussed tool from Google which I use to primarily communicate with and assign tasks to my virtual assistant who operates on the other side of the globe.

Q. In terms of legacy, what is the mark you’d like to leave on the world?

Barrett: I’d like to leave the world more healed and full of love.

By having a direct impact on people through facilitating and supporting them on their healing journey, we can together raise the frequency of the Earth and show up from a more whole, grounded, and loving place.

Q. In one sentence, what’s the best advice you’d give to someone just starting out on their entrepreneurial journey?

Barrett: The best advice I would give someone is don’t give up. There will always be new challenges and hurdles to overcome. Simply by showing up and trying, over and over again, you can create success.

It turns out, most other entrepreneurs aren’t successful because they know more… they just simply, keep pushing forward.
