Being an influencer sounds like the “dream job” for a lot of people. You get paid to live a fun, entertaining lifestyle, right? After all, who wouldn’t want that?

But that’s just one side of the story. See, contrary to popular belief, most influencers you see online are not making nearly as much money as you think they are. Most of them are spinning their wheels, stuck in a “9 to 5” job, and struggling to secure their next brand deal.

Briana Wilson knows this firsthand.

After over 7 years in the industry and working with dozens of influencers all around the globe, she has seen it happen.

Briana is the Founder and CEO of NYLA Influencers and Bizfluence, where she helps established and micro-influencers build their influencer business by sharing her knowledge and helping them secure brand deals.

In fact, during the past few years, she has secured over $2M in brand deals and partnerships for her clients, who have struggled to find sponsors that would pay them their worth.

But when she started, things were very different for her.

When she graduated from UCLA a decade ago, she started her career making $28k a year, and grinding the 9 to 5 that often turned into 9 to 9.

In 2016, she was done with the grind and moved to NYC.

She wanted more.

Briana said, “I wanted a view of the city with floor to ceiling windows in a high-rise building. I wanted privacy and a place that was mine. Somewhere I didn’t have to share with people I didn’t know and somewhere I didn’t have to sleep on the floor.”

And she knew her 9 to 5 job wasn’t going to get her there.

It was time for her to make a change. She took a leap of faith and launched her business, NYLA Influencers. Briana doubled her income in her first year in business. Her talent management business now brings in six figures in brand partnership revenue monthly.

How is she doing it?

Briana explains, “We’ve built out a handful of automations within my business to increase efficiency and volume. I’m also big on hiring contractors to get the administrative tasks done. This gives me more time and energy to focus on the growth of my clients. I’m also regularly connecting with industry professionals and creators to gain more insight on what’s going on in the influencer marketing space.”
