Kylie Nel is an intuitive business coach, sales and marketing expert. Starting out as an online coach in 2015, Kylie decided to pivot into business coaching in 2019. Within less than a year, Miss K Business Coaching has reached 7 figures in South Africa by working with women all over the world by teaching female entrepreneurs how to claim the freedom, fulfilment and finances they’ve always craved.

Below Kylie outlines 7 important lessons she’s learnt since hitting the million milestone.

Lesson 1: Sell a transformation, not a lifestyle.

It’s problematic when coaches merely sell their audience a lifestyle and not a transformation. Although it is a great marketing tactic to showcase the glamourous side to being an entrepreneur and expert, it’s important to remember that your current lifestyle is a by-product of the transformation you underwent. Your audience needs to be aware of this.

The biggest focus when I started as a business coach was not centred around ‘how quick can I make money’ or ‘what’s the biggest investment I can push myself to sell’ — it was ‘what more can I do to help women monetise their passions to live a life of freedom and fulfilment?’ This translated into always putting my client’s transformation before the zeros in my bank account. This is the way to truly over deliver and reflect ethical practice.

Lesson 2: Comparison is the thief of joy.

You’ve probably heard it time and time again, but create more than you consume. There’s a fine line between being triggered and being inspired (and trust me, I’ve been triggered A LOT).

When I decided to take my coaching full time, I placed myself in a bubble. Within this bubble the only vision I was centred around what I wanted to do, where I wanted to be, and how I could make a difference in people’s lives by being uniquely me.

It is so easy to get caught up in what everyone else is doing, and the first thing that kicks in is feeling a of lack of worth. You are crippling your own success. Someone else’s light does not dim yours. I celebrate everyone’s success as if it is my own, knowing that there is abundance in this world.

Lesson 3: Time is merely an illusion.

I have stopped living according to everyone else’s timeline. We live in a society where everything needs to be achieved faster, done sooner, be more this and be more that, list just doesn’t end.

After experiencing severe burnout in 2017, I started taking a step back from society’s expectations, until I fully submerged myself in what I wanted for my life and focused on when I wanted it by. Yes, life is short, but by no means do you want to reflect back on it and feel like it’s all been a blur, sprinting from one goal to the next. Take a step back to be present, acknowledge and take in every win (no matter how big or small). You will never feel like you have enough time, so you may as well have fun along the way and make time work for you.

Lesson 4: Energy and mindset is everything

Money does not define you, nor does it bind you. If you told me a year ago, that this would be my reality, I wouldn’t believe you. A year ago, my mindset towards money was one of lack, scarcity and doubt. The negative preconceived notions about money I had allowed my identity to be defied by the numbers in my bank account. The moment I realised that money is just energy, and there is an abundance of clients and dollar bills in this world, my entire attitude towards sales, launching and investing changed.

Money is merely a by-product of the transformation I provide in my clients’ lives. Having this intense detachment from the money in my business, I was able to experience immense fulfilment before any finances, which allowed my business and self to expand much further than any hundred-dollar bill would ever allow me to.

Lesson 5: Serve three times before you sell.

I am a creator and community builder before being a business woman. This business isn’t about me, it’s about my clients and the community I have built. It’s about empowering the woman who feels like she’s lost her impact on the world, and knows there is something more in store for her. It’s for the woman who dares to go against the grain, and co-creates her reality on her own terms. It’s for the dreamer, the doer, the ambitious soul who refuses to live life on average terms.

It’s for the woman who is ready to make more money, create more change, experience more freedom. I do this all for her. For all my clients past, present and future. YOU are the reason I do what I do.

Lesson 6: Consistency and resiliency wins, always

There is no such thing as a get rich quick scheme or magic formula. Can we shout it louder for the people in the back please?! Here’s a reality check: I’ve had launches where no one bought, I’ve heard 20 no’s when I first started doing sales calls, I’ve posted and no one liked, I’ve done a live training where only 1 person showed (and it was my close friend). And you know what I did? I just kept going. Instant gratification is what our society runs on.

I started building an online brand 5 years ago, for the past 2 years (nearly 3), I have been posting consistently every single day to build an online community. I’ve had my Facebook community for almost a year. Good things take time; but trust me whenever I fell down, I would dust myself back up and go back to the drawing board and take radical responsibility for my own results.

Lesson 7: Acknowledge you can’t always do this on your own.

There is magic in investing in yourself. I remember investing in my first business coach for $3,500 when I barely had $300 in my bank account, and I made it work. It’s always scary, but I cannot express that VALUE and immense transformation that happens when you invest in yourself. Every investment I made before I felt ready to, and I thank my lucky stars that I just took that leap of faith in myself. Not only does investing in a coach provide you with support and someone to lean on, but it also empowers you to level up so much faster, because you are now in an environment surrounded by people that constantly provide you with evidence that your success is now inevitable.

And have I been burnt in the past? Hell yes, by some of the so-called best proclaimed coaches in the industry. And you know what I did? Blessed them with love and light knowing that they just showed me everything I don’t want to be or represent in the online space.

They still taught me valuable lessons and steered me towards integrity and authenticity.
